Monday April 23 - Louisiana Legislators learn about Broadway South

• Meeting with Dean Joe May
I drive early that morning to Baton Rouge to meet with Dr. Joe May, Dean of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS). Broadway South will provide a host of opportunity for the tens of thousands of students who filter into the various community and technical colleges in the state. Dr. May agrees to write a recommendation for the Broadway South legislation. His endorsement is a wonderful victory for the proposal.

11:30 AM
• Conference Call with Representative Taylor Towsend
From the office of McGlinchy Stafford in Baton Rouge, I further clarify in a conference call with Representative Taylor Towsend, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the significance of Broadway South’s passage. I explain in great detail the fiscal note and tax incentive package of the Broadway South initiative to facilitate Rep. Towsend’s full understanding of the legislation.

2:00 PM
• Meet with Senator Mount, Chairman of the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Committee
I give Senator Mount much-needed background and information on the legislation.

4:00 PM
• Meet with Senator Robert Adley
Meet Senator Adley, also on the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Committee, to discuss the Broadway South legislation. In one day, we meet with the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Chairman for the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Committee, and one of its other most important members. All three listened with open minds to the initiative and we set the stage for upcoming weeks for those various leaders.

10:00 PM
• Back to New Orleans, I record the WDSU “6 On Your Side” show with Norman Robinson. It is a ten-minute piece in which I appear with Jefferson Parish Council President John Young, Broadway South receives Mr. Young’s on-air endorsement. The feedback from the show is remarkable!
